Ashbourne is a small town located within the Derbyshire Dales and known as the 'gateway to Dovedale'. It is a historic town and as a result has over 200 listed buildings. One key building is the St Oswalds parish church that has a spire that is 212 feet high. Within the town centre just around the corner, you will also find the old marketplace where there is a pay and display car park. Located within the small town are plenty of pubs and restaurants both traditional and fine dining, as well as plenty of shops, including those owned by small businesses. Also worth a trip is the Old Sweet Shop, a wonderland for sweet lovers, both traditional and new. Just around the corner is Ashbourne's only cinema, 'Elite cinema' which originally opened in the early 1930s, however sadly closed in 1976. The building has since been restored and is now a functional cinema showing plenty of new and current films - highly recommended if there's something you fancy seeing.
