Enjoy a family day out at the famous Alton Towers theme park which is located in Alton, around 18 minutes (10.8 miles) away. It is the UKs largest theme park resort and home to over 40 different attractions meaning that there truly is something for everyone. They have 10 main rollercoasters including the Smiler, Wicker man and Oblivion. Alton Towers is also home to CBeebies land, the only one of its kind, perfect for younger children with plenty of rides and attractions to choose from based around CBeebies favourite characters and shows. A beautiful place to visit, Carsington reservoir is located just outside Ashbourne, 16 minutes (6.9 miles) away. From water sports to cycling and fishing, there is something for all the family. The water sports include; rowing boats, kayaking, paddle boarding and Canadian canoes, all of which are available to hire, including life jackets. Windsurfing is also popular at Carsington and the possibility to take your own equipment out onto the reservoir is available, for a small price. Hire biked and explore the Smile pathways surrounding the reservoir. There is a visitor centre, cafe and small shops, and an incredible park perfect for keeping your children entertained. It is a great day out and worth a trip.
