Bakewell (17 miles away)

Situated on the banks of the river Wye, Bakewell is the biggest town in the Peak District National Park. Featuring mellow stone buildings, a medieval five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards, Bakewell has lots to offer the visitor. The town is perhaps best known for its unique and delicious famous Bakewell tart. On Monday you can find the outdoor town market which is a great place to find some wonderful small businesses. If you're visiting in July, the Bakewell carnival week and well dressing is worth taking a look at, be sure to search up what dates they are taking place this year. If visiting in august, you may be able to visit one of the oldest agricultural events in the country, the Bakewell show (again be sure to look up the dates for this year).

Dovedale (5 miles away)

Owned by The National Trust. A favourite with families and walkers, you'll find the famous stepping stones in Dovedale, a National Nature Reserve, with stunning ravine woodlands, wildlife and views. Spot fossils in the limestone rock formations and look out for dippers and yellow wagtails bobbing along the River Dove.

Eyam (Approx 23 miles away)

Eyam a small village located in the peak district which is known as the 'Plague village'. As a result of this catchy nickname, Eyam has an incredible history which you can learn about in its very own museum, open March to November. This small village has a town hall, 'Eyam hall', a courtyard with a craft centre and a nearby church that dates back to Saxon times with some of the original architecture.


Matlock & Matlock Bath (Approx 14 miles away)

Matlock is a market town that was developed as a 'fashionable spa' in the 19th century by john Smedley. Within Matlock there is Hall Leys Park which has a boating lake and riverside walks as well as a tennis court and skateboard park. The centre is brimming with independent shops, plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants. Matlock Bath is a mile and a half south of Matlock and a town that was developed as one of England's first true tourist destinations. Matlock bath has magnificent views, steep wooded hillsides. There are plenty of shops, cafes, amusement arcades and attractions. If visiting in September or October, the popular Matlock Bath illuminations are definitely worth a visit.

Cities

Derby (Approx 13.6 miles away)

Derby is the closest city located just 13.6 miles away, just over 20 minutes. The cathedral located in derby is definitely worth a visit and at different points throughout the year, there are different events so it is worth checking out their website to see what's happening www.derbycathedral.org.

Derby is also home to Derby County football club, as well as the velodrome, which again is worth checking out. Derby theatre hosts fantastic shows throughout the year and more information about these can be found on their website: www.derbytheatre.org

Derby also has a shopping centre (Derbion), which has plenty of shops including Tommy Hilfiger, Flannels and Rituals, alongside a large food court & various restaurants.


Nottingham (Approx 28.3 miles away)

Nottingham is only slightly further out than derby, 28.3 miles, around 45 minutes away. A city with plenty of shops and various things to do including, visiting the oldest Inn in England, 'Ye Olde trip to Jerusalem'. Each year, Nottingham holds the Goose Fair which takes place in October, as well as their winter wonderland including several Christmas stands with festive food and drink, and an ice-skating rink. If your more into your history and architecture, then Nottingham castle and the caves are definitely worth a visit


Birmingham (Approx 43.7 miles away)

One of the closest 'major' cities to Ashbourne at 43.7 miles away (just over an hour), Birmingham is home to the Bullring shopping centre which is a vast shopping centre with hundreds of shops to choose from. Other things to do in Birmingham include visiting the Legoland discovery centre and Cadburys world, both of which are fun days out. Birmingham is also home to the only Sandbox VR experience in the UK, located in Grand central shopping centre.
